When Michael and Val Callaway heard there was a new seniors 
community being developed in Prince George, their curiosity piqued. The couple, who’ve owned their own, single-detached home in the city for the past 48 years, knew it was time to downsize but had yet to find the right home for their needs.
“We heard about it through our seniors centre and when we were in the mall one day having coffee, we saw the RiverBend Information Kiosk and went over to find out more,” explained Val Callaway.
“This was ideal for us because it had all that we had been looking for. New construction and everything up to code, the services that are available, a full kitchen,” added Michael.
The modern and spacious design of RiverBend also appealed to the Callaways, who had done some Internet research on the RiverBend Kamloops location – which the Prince George location is modeled after. It showed the couple photographs of what the development looks like and the breadth of amenities available.
The Callaways chose a suite on the ground floor that leads outside so their small dog, Cara, has easy access to the RiverBend Dog Park. The couple is also looking forward to enjoying amenities right on the property including a workshop, gym and hair-dressing studio. One of the bedrooms in their two-bedroom suite may also become a painting and art room for Michael, who enjoys painting, but found it difficult to make time for it.
While the couple waits for the new seniors development to be completed, with a planned move in date of Fall 2017, Val and Michael are making plans to downsize from their large family home.
“Getting rid of things from our home makes me feel a little apprehensive, but we are really excited about the move to RiverBend,” says Michael. “We’ve spoken to our children about it and they’ve helped to put our anxiety at rest. They won’t worry about us and we’ll be happy.”
