Fred Schlitt was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1930. He was born a middle child out of seven children. For the first fifteen years of his life Fred lived in Regina with his family until his father made the decision to move the family to Prince George as he thought it would give his children a better future with more opportunities.
Looking back Fred is happy that Prince George became his home and has been here ever since. In Prince George, Fred built a career in the sawmill industry and grew a family with his wife, Edith. Together they had four children; three girls and one boy. Their children graced them with 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren! Sadly, Edith passed away from cancer in 2010 but together, her and Fred were married for fifty-seven years and built a family that they both can be proud of. Fred speaks highly of how well his family gets along and how all their marriages have lasted through thick and thin, a rarity in todays society.
One of Fred’s favourite memories was taking his family on an Alaskan Cruise. He has gone on an Alaskan Cruise three times in his life and would go again in a heartbeat if he could. Fred is a very kind-hearted individual who has many great stories to tell. Fred moved into RiverBend Prince George when it first opened and has been there since the beginning. We feel lucky to have him!
